General Event Questions
- When is the marathon?
The 2008 Beijing International Marathon will take place on Sunday, October 19, 2008
- Where does the marathon start and finish?
The marathon will start from Tiananmen Square and finish at the Olympic Center
- How do I get to Tiananmen Square?
There are many ways to get to Tiananmen Square.
By Metro:
- Take Line 1 and exit at Tiananmen East Station
- Take Line 2 and exit at Qianmen Station
By Bus:
- Exit Qianmen Stop on Buses: 2, 5, 9, 17, 20, 22, 44, 48, 53, 54, 59, 110, 116, 120, or 307
- Exit Tiananmen (Zhongshan Park) Stop on Buses: 1, 4, 5, 10, 22, 37, 52, 726, 728, 826
By Taxi: Ask the taxi driver to take you to Tiananmen Square
- What time can I check-in on race day?
Race day check-in will open at 6:30 AM and will close at 7:30 AM.
- What time does the race start?
There are two start times. The first start time is 8:00 AM (Men’s Full Marathon - Elite Runners only). The second start time is 8:15 AM (Women’s Full Marathon – Elite Runners; followed by amateur Full Marathon runners; Half Marathon runners; 10K runners; and finally Mini Marathon runners).
- Will timing chips be provided?
Only Full Marathon runners will be provided with a ChampionChip timing chip. A deposit of 100 RMB is required for each timing chip and this deposit should be paid when runners pick up their race pack. Timing chips may be returned at the designated finish area on race day. Deposits will be refunded once the chip is returned.
- May I use my own timing chip for this race?
We request that all runners only use the timing chips provided by the race organizers.
- Is there a time limit for each race?
Yes, there are time limits for each race. The time limits for each race is as follows:
Full Marathon – 5 hours (finish will close at 1:15 PM)
Half Marathon – 2 hours and 30 minutes (finish will close at 10:45 AM)
10K – 1 hour and 25 minutes (finish will close at 9:40 AM)
Mini Marathon – 40 minutes (finish will close at 8:55 AM)
Registration Questions
- When will registration start?
Registration begins when the race rules are published. Registration is currently open.
- When is the last day to register?
Race registration is broken into two periods: regular registration and late registration. Regular registration begins when the race rules are published and ends on September 15, 2008 at 5:00 PM. Late registration lasts from September 15, 2008 at 5:01 PM to October 16, 2008 at 5:00 PM. Entry fees will be increased during the late registration period. Please note that these are the scheduled registration periods. If a race reaches maximum capacity before the end of the registration period, the race will be closed regardless of the date.
- How many people are allowed to register in each race?
The maximum capacity for each race is as follows: Full Marathon – 8,000 runners; Half Marathon – 8,000 runners; 10K – 8,000 runners; Mini Marathon – 6,000 runners. The total number of runners will not exceed 30,000 people. As mentioned above, if a race reaches maximum capacity before the end of the registration period, the race will be closed regardless of the date.
- How do I register to run?
People may register online on the official event website or in-person at any of the designated registration outlets (see official Registration Outlets)
- How much is the entry fee?
The regular registration period entry fees for each race category are as follows:

After 5:01 PM on September 15, 2008, entry fees for Non-Chinese citizens/passport holders will increase to 100 USD; entry fees for Chinese citizens/passport holders will increase to 100 RMB.
- Is there a registration age requirement?
Yes, there are age requirements for each event. The age requirements are as follows:

- How do I pay for my registration?
If you register online, you have three payment options: payment via bank transfer, payment via PayPal (recommended for international runners) and payment via Alipay (recommended for domestic runners). If you register in-person, you can pay with cash directly, or check with each registration outlet for their payment requirements.
- I have registered for the race online on the official event website. How do I confirm my entry was received and accepted?
If you paid online, you will receive an email confirming your entry once payment has been processed. If you chose to pay via bank transfer, you should receive an email confirming that your entry has been received and is pending. It will remain pending until your payment is received.
Entrants who have registered online may check their entry status via the Entrant Search tool available on the official event website.
Health & Safety Questions
- Do I need to provide written proof that I am physically fit to run a marathon?
A written proof of health is not required at registration but the Organizing Committee recommends that all runners visit their physician to ensure that they are in a condition of good health before participating in the marathon.
- Does the Organizing Committee provide insurance to all runners?
Yes, the Organizing Committee provides free accidental insurance coverage to all runners.
- Will there be medical staff stationed along the race route?
There will be medical support stations located every 5 kilometers along the race route and ambulances will be present to provide immediate medical assistance to any runners. Special medical volunteers will also be stationed every 100 meters along the route.
- What if I cannot finish my race?
For runners who feel they cannot complete their race, there will be broom buses which will take runners to their designated race finish areas.
Race Pack Pick-Up Questions
- When can I pick up my race pack and where do I go to pick it up?
Race packs will be available for pick up on October 16-18. For runners that have registered online, please check the official event website for details on race pack pick-up times and location. For runners who have registered in person, please check with your designated registration outlet. Pick-up times and locations will vary depending on each registration point.
- What do I need to bring to pick-up my race pack?
Runners should bring their ID or passport to pick-up their race pack.
- What is included in each race pack?
All runners will receive an event runners’ bag which contains the following: race bib, runner guide book, event t-shirt and participant certificate. Runners in the Full Marathon will also receive a timing chip in their race pack.
Race Day Questions
- Must I wear the event t-shirt on race day?
The Organizing Committee recommends that all runners wear the event shirt on race day to ensure smooth passage with security officials. It is understood that some participants prefer to wear special racing gear, and it is requested that all amateur runners wear the provided event t-shirt.
- Where can I store my belongings’ on race day?
All runners (except those running the Mini Marathon) may store their belongings on the designated storage buses. Runners should store belongings in the provided runner’s bag (with race bib number displayed) and according to their race category and race bib number. The Organizing Committee is not responsible for any loss or theft of personal belongings.
- Where will water stations be located along the race route?
Water stations will be located every 2.5 kilometers along the route.
- What activities and services will be available to runners or spectators on race day?
Aside from the on-route runner services (water, sponging, medical stations), the Olympic Center finish area will feature a sponsor village with additional post-race services and activities including: TBC.
- If I am running the Full Marathon and do not finish, how can I get to the finish area?
Broom buses will be available to pick-up any runners that stop along the route, or cannot finish within the given time limit. Broom buses will pick-up runners and take them to the Olympic Center finish area.
- If I am running the Half Marathon, 10K or Mini Marathon, how can I get to the Olympic Center to watch the finish?
Runners in these race categories can get to the full marathon finish area via buses which will bring runners from their respective finishes to the Olympic Center finish area. Runners may also take taxis or public transit to the Olympic Center finish area.
- If I do not complete the Half Marathon or 10K within the given time limit, how and where can I pick up my stored belongings?
Runners competing in these categories may pick-up their belongings first at the finish areas of their respective races. Storage buses for each race will be stationed at each race’s respective finish area until the race closes. If a runner arrives after the race has closed, he/she may pick up their belongings at the Olympic Center finish area, where all the storage buses will go after expiration of time. If a runner finishes after 2:30 PM, he/she may pick-up their belongings from the CAA office up to 7 days after the event.
- Will spectators be allowed inside the Olympic Center finish area?
Yes, spectators will be allowed the Olympic Center stadium and finish area to watch runners finish.
- Where and how can I purchase marathon merchandise?
Marathon merchandise will be available to be purchased on race day at the Olympic Center finish area in the sponsor activities village.
- Where can I receive a program book, list of marathon runners and/or result book?
Program books, race participant lists, and result books may be reserved at time of registration and purchased at race pack pick-up or on race day at the merchandise booth. Items should also be available for purchase, post-event through the registration outlets. Please check with designated registration outlets for confirmation.
Post-Event Questions
- What will I get when I finish?
All Full Marathon runners that complete the race within the time limit will receive: a souvenir medal, event towel, souvenir t-shirt and completion certificiate.
- When will race results be available?
Complete race results will be available 1-2 days after the marathon.
- Where do I go to find race results?
Race results can be found on here on the official event website.
- Where do I go to find photos of the marathon?
Selected photos from the marathon may be found on the official event website under “Marathon Photo Gallery.” Individual runner photos of runners in the Full Marathon may be found via Marathon Photos (www.marathon-photos.com) 2-3 days after the event.
- I forgot to pick up my runner’s bag after the race. Where can I go to pick it up?
Runners’ belongings stored in the runner bag can be picked up at the Olympic Center finish area until 2:30 PM on race day. After that time, runners’ belongings can be claimed at the CAA offices. Runners’ belongings will only be kept for 7 days at CAA’s offices. After 7 days, remaining items will be disposed of.
- How do I enter the photo contest?
Website visitors may submit photos by clicking on the “Photo Contest” button on the event homepage. Directions for photo submission and contest entry can be found at (hyperlink to photo site).
