Full Marathon

Distance: 42.195 km

Time Limit: 5 hours

Degree of Difficulty: Extremely difficult, all runners should be well-trained before attempting to run a full marathon

Participants in 2007: 6,753

Description:
The full marathon is one of the most challenging physical activities in which one can choose to participate. Runners who run the marathon often train for several months prior to the race and endure much mental and physical pain during and after the race. However, to endure and complete a full marathon is considered one of the most rewarding personal experiences. This race is ideal for runners who run and train on a regular basis, as well as runners looking to challenge themselves. Individuals who are new to the sport of running, and who have not trained or run in a distance race before, should refrain from participating in the marathon as their first choice of race discipline.

Half Marathon

Distance: 21.0975 km

Time Limit: 2.5 hours

Degree of Difficulty: Difficult, still a serious race although half a marathon distance; runners should be well trained prior to running a half marathon

Participants in 2007: 6,864

Description:
The half marathon is still considered a long distance race and participated in by serious runners, though it is half as long as a marathon. Runners participating in the half marathon should have trained for the race in advance, similar as for a full marathon. Likewise, the running distance also poses a great mental and physical challenge to those who choose to run a half marathon. Participants who complete the half marathon experience a great feeling of accomplishment. This is an ideal race for avid runners who are looking to work their way up to completing a full marathon and also for runners looking to improve their current running base. First-time race participants should prepare well in advance if they plan on running this race!

10K

Distance: 10 km

Time Limit 1.5 hours

Degree of Difficulty: Moderate

Participants in 2007: 6,083

Description:
Sponsored by Dongfeng Honda, the 10K is a more mid-distance race, however it still poses a challenge for many first time and recreational runners. Runners participating in the 10K should have some training basis prior to entering the race and warm-up well before running the race in order to avoid injury. As long as runners are steady in pace, they should be able to compete full distance. This race is ideal for recreational runners and runners looking to challenge themselves in their first distance race.

Mini Marathon

Distance: 4.2K

Time Limit: 40 minutes

Degree of Difficulty: Moderate to Easy

Participants in 2007: 5,985

Sponsored by Swatch, the Mini Marathon is the shortest race of all the Beijing International Marathon disciplines. It is considered more of a fun run drawing participants from all ages. The race is ideal for all runners and can be completed as long as the runner runs at his own pace. Many families participate together in the race, as well as corporate and local recreational groups. The Swatch Mini Marathon is a far more social run where participants are encouraged to come out in spirited costumes, have fun, and run!
