VII.          Race date and place

The 2011 Beijing Marathon will be held on October 16, 2011 in Beijing.

VIII.       Race events

Male and female: Marathon (42.195km), half Marathon (21.0975km), 9km Marathon, and Mini Marathon (4.2km)

IX.             Start time

9:00 a.m., October 16, 2011.

All participants start in the sequence of elite athletes, National Marathon Championship (man & woman), Marathon, half Marathon, 9km, and Mini Marathon.

X.                Marathon race route

Starting point: Beijing Tian’anmen Square; by way of Dongcheng District, Xicheng District, Haidian District, and Chaoyang District;

Finishing point: Central Area of Beijing Olympic Park----Ceremony Square

XI.             Technical Aspect

I      Race shall comply with the IAAF and CAA Rules and Regulations (2010-2011).

II    Roll-call: Register according to the events in the scheduled time.

III   Start order: Elite athletes shall be positioned at the front of the start area, and all rest line up in the sequence of Marathon, Half Marathon, 9km Marathon, and Mini Marathon.the order of Keep 20 meters between every two square teams.

IV   Application procedure of National Class Title:

1.            Runners applying for national class title shall comply with the Athletes Classification Regulation.

2.           Runners wanting to race for the National Class Title shall register separately at special roll-call quarters with their second-generation identity cards 40 minutes before the race. They will not be able to apply for the National Class Title with their scores, if they do not register separately.

V    Time limit:

To ensure the Marathon secure and smooth, the race route will be closed to traffic at successive sections during the race period. After the closing time, the road sections will restore traffic. Runners shall cease the race and quit the racing track to avoid danger, if they fail to finish corresponding distances at stipulated closing time. The runners who could not finish the race on time should exit  the course and get on the picking up buses to the finish area.

VI   The organizing committee will extend race articles to runners during the Beijing Marathon Expo period. Runners may fetch the articles from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on October 13 to 15, 2011 at Beijing Marathon Expo site (for detailed information, please visit the Beijing Marathon official website for official announcements or call 010-67167412 for advisory).

VII The organizing committee will supply chip timing service to all Marathon (42.195km) runners. The race will start at 8 a.m. Runners must go through all the timing blankets on the route, which are respectively placed on the ground of the points for 10km, 15km, half way, 30km, 35km, and the finishing point. If they miss any of the timing points, the athletes’ final scores will be null.

The timing chip will be issued with the bib number before the race. Each runner will pay RMB 100 yuan as deposit for the timing chip, 16 USD for foreigners, when they pay the entry fees. The deposit will be refunded when runners arrive at the finishing point and give back the timing chips. The deposit will not be refunded, if the timing chips are lost or damaged.

Timing Chip refund options: return time is October 13 to October 28, 2011. Beijing Marathon Expo (race article collection), the finish area on the race day and the office of the organizing committee after the race will be the place where the runners my refund their timing chip deposit. If the chip is lost or damaged, the deposit is non-refundable. If the runner failed to fulfill the refund procedures within the specified time, the chip deposit is non-refundable.

 

VIII      Marathon, Half Marathon and 9KM runners shall reserve their personal belongings according to rules. Do not keep valuables in bags, such as mobile phones, valid documentations, cash, keys, palmtops and mp3 players. Runners may get back their deposited personal belongings at the designated cloakroom before 15:30 in the same day. They may fetch their personal belongings the second day at the organizing committee, if they fail to claim them at scheduled time that very day. However, if runners do not take back their personal belongings in seven days, the organizing committee will dispose them as ownerless goods.

IX   Beverage and drinking water service

There will be one beverage service station for every five kilometers since the starting point. Drinking water will be served between two neighboring beverage service stations.

X    For detailed information on other requirements and arrangements of the Marathon contest, please consult the Athlete Race Manual issued before the race (released along with contest articles before the race, or downloaded at Beijing Marathon official website).

XI   The doping test shall be conducted by the Organizing Committee for the athletes partially .

XII The organizing committee will make video monitoring over the starting point, the whole course and finishing point. Runners violating the following rules will have their competition scores cancelled. They will not be allowed to take part in Beijing Marathon for two years. They will be reported to Chinese Athletic Association for additional penalties.

1.            Sign up with false age or displaced by others after enrolment.

2.            One runner carries two or more timing chips in the race.

3.            Disobey the starting sequence and get off the mark at the starting point for other events.

4.            Jumping the gun.

5.            Occupying the road after Time Limite.

6.            Taking a shortcut.

7.            Receiving souvenir bags by repeatedly crossing the finishing line against the provisions.

8.            Failing to complete the whole course but remain crossing the finishing line for souvenirs.

9.            Disobeying directions of staff workers.

XII.          Prizes

(I)           Full Marathon:

1.            Record award (for one) (in U.S. dollars):

Beijing Marathon record: 2:07:35. The athlete making a record at Beijing Marathon will win an award of 42,195 U.S. dollars.

2.            Rating award (in U.S. dollars):

The top 8 male and female athletes will be awarded with the following bonus respectively (see the following chart)

3.            Time bonus (in U.S. dollars): The award is issued to runners for their highest performance, and non-accumulative. The record award winner will no longer be issued with the prize.

Male:     12:07:35-2:07:59award 20,000 U.S. dollars

               22:08:00-2:08:59award 8,000 U.S. dollars

Female: 12:19:39-2:19:59award 10,000 U.S. dollars

               22:20:00-2:20:59award 5,000 U.S. dollars

Note:      (1)  The above bonus shall be levied with 20 percent personal income tax.

               (2)  Chinese athletes winning the above awards will be paid with same valued RMB.

4.            The top eight male and female athletes will be awarded with one sport trophy, one medal and one suit of sportswear respectively.

5.            Awards for nonprofessional Chinese Marathon runners: The top five nonprofessional male and female Marathon runners shall be awarded with the prize to take part in the overseas Marathon exchange activity, free of charge, organized by Beijing Marathon Organizing Committee, and a suit of Adidas sportswear. The top 50 nonprofessional Marathon runners other than the top five will be awarded a prize (Adidas sportswear). Beijing Marathon Organizing Committee reserves the right of final interpretation for the award.

6.            The Marathon runners completing the whole course in stipulated time shall be awarded with a bath towel, commemorative medal and score certificate respectively.

7.            All the Marathon runners will have a sport suit (since the sport suits are made in batches, the organizing committee cannot ensure every runner will have a sport suit of precise size. Runners will have their right sized sport suits under the principle of “first come, first served,” when they come to fetch contest articles.), sport suit bag, race number, and Beijing Marathon Manual, before the race starts.

(II)          Half Marathon:

1.            The top 10 male and female runners will be awarded with a medal and a suit of sportswear respectively.

2.            All the runners will have a suit of sportswear, sport suit bag, race number, Beijing Marathon Manual and certificate (The organizing committee will not supply timing chips, and runners need to fill in the scores according to the timers at the finishing point by themselves) respectively before the race.

(III)        9km Marathon and Mini Marathon:

All the runners will have a suit of sportswear, sport suit bag, race number, Beijing Marathon Manual and certificate (The organizing committee will not supply timing chips, and runners need to fill in the scores according to the timers at the finishing point by themselves) respectively before the race.

XIII.       Participation requirement

I      Participant age requirements:

1.            Marathon participants shall be over 20 years old (born before October 16, 1991).

2.            Half Marathon participants shall be over 16 years old (born before October 16, 1995).

3.            9km Marathon participants shall be over 15 years old (born before October 16, 1996).

4.            Mini Marathon participants shall be over 13 years old (born before October 16, 1998). Children younger than 13 years old may participate under the name of family. Please find the Rules and Regulations for Family Run on the official website www.beijing-marathon.com

Participants must enroll with valid documentations, such as identity cards, passports or military IDs, in line with age requirements for respective contests.

II    Participant physical condition requirements:

Marathon is an athletic sport of high load and great intensity over long distances. It is also a high risk athletic sport. Thus, it raises high demands on participant physical conditions. Participants should have good health and long-term running or training experiences. Participants may choose among the contests of Marathon, Half Marathon, 9km Marathon and Mini Marathon, according to their own physical conditions and actual abilities.

Patients suffering from the following diseases shall not take part in the contest:

1.            Congenital heart disease and rheumatic heart disease;

2.            Hyper tension and cranial vascular disease;

3.            Myocarditis and other heart diseases;

4.            Coronary artery disease and serious cardiac arrhythmia;

5.            Hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia diabetics;

6.            Patients of other diseases unfit for sports.

III   Registration measures:

1.            2011 Beijing Marathon registration is separated into the formal registration stage and backup registration stage.

1     Formal registration stage: 5 p.m. June 16 to July 30, 2011. It will end ahead of schedule if the quotas are filled in advance.

During the registration period, participants may register through the Beijing Marathon official website registration system or the officially designated registration sites. They must fill in all required information and submit them. They will have the serial numbers for successful registration  when the entry fees are paid. When the registration completes, participants may log on the official website for their bib numbers and download and print the credential sheets for collecting the race articles.

2     Backup registration stage: 5 p.m. August 1 to 15, 2011

If the formal registration stage ends and enrolled participants are under 30,000, the remaining quotas will be admitted to the backup registration stage. There will not be a backup registration stage, if the formal registration stage has received 30,000 applicants.

2.            The quotas for Mini Marathon are 9,000 participants, 9km Marathon 6,500 participants, Half Marathon 6,000 participants, and Marathon 8,500 participants. Registration will end when the quotas are met (All registrations will be marked with successful payment of the entry fee and get the successful registration serial number).

3.            2011 Beijing Marathon accepts individual application, group application (more than 10 participants), college championship, and family run. For college championship and family run please see the rules and regulations for the two events respectively. The Beijing Marathon Athlete Name List will not show the names of the enrolled group.

4.            National Class Title registration: Participants registering for national class title must sign up at the Xuanwu District registration office of Beijing Zhaoyue Sport Culture Exchange Center with their valid documentations. They must choose the grade standard options in the application forms, pay registration fees according to rules, and submit 1-inch bareheaded photo and second-generation identity card electronic scanning photos.

IV   Registration fees: 2011 Beijing Marathon registration fees are paid in two stages (Beijing time), according to different time frames, contests and participants.

1.            Formal registration stage: 5 p.m. June 16-July 30, 2011

1     Chinese applicants (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents): 90 yuan/person for Marathon contest; and 50 yuan/person for Half Marathon, 9km Marathon, and Mini Marathon contests;

2     Foreign applicants: 60 U.S. dollars/person for Marathon, and 55 U.S. dollars/person for Half Marathon, 9km Marathon, and Mini Marathon contests.

2.            Backup registration stage:5 p.m. August 1-15, 2011

1     Chinese applicants (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents): 150 yuan/person for Marathon contest; and 100 yuan/person for Half Marathon, 9km Marathon, and Mini Marathon;

2     Foreign applicants: 100 U.S. dollars/person for all events.

The organizing committee is entitled to decide whether accepting enrollment according to application situations. The entry fees will not be returned when the applications are confirmed.

V   Program Book, Name List and Results Book

Program Book: Participants may buy it at the site of Beijing Marathon Expo. 15 yuan for a copy of Program Book,

Name List and Results Book: Participants may log on the official website to search and download the e-version of the two. Results Book records the results of Marathon and top 20 of half marathon).

Marathon (42.195km) runners’ results may also be found at Beijing Marathon official website.

XIV.       Medical aid

I      The organizing committee will set up a medical aid post every five kilometers along the Marathon route, with distinct signs 50 meters ahead of the posts. Ambulances will follow the runners on the route.

II    The organizing committee will assign one volunteer in every 100 meters along the route to assist medical aid and maintain race order. Runners may seek help with them for any problems.

XV.          Insurance

The organizer of the event will cover all Marathon runners and staff workers with life accident insurance. Please look up the Specifications of Life Accident Insurance before the race at Beijing Marathon official website or designated registration sites.

XVII.    Beijing Marathon personnel reception service

To facilitate participants from various provinces and municipalities to watch and learn from Beijing Marathon, the organizing committee will provide personnel reception services. The inspection units must come into touch and confirm information with the organizing committee 30 days before the event (pay by themselves).
